This research seeks to answer what makes a hero and what purpose one serves, through a comparative study of two divergent but at the same time complementary spaces: the process of manufacturing and mythologizing the war heroes of Spain and Mexico, confronted with their instrumentalization by the ruling class and the appearance of the respective heroic pantheons on which both nations are based. This study provides a historical review of the slow but constant construction of the concept and image of a “hero” in Spain and Mexico, accompanied by illustrations and color photos of paintings, monuments and newspapers.
