Through the analysis of oral materials collected in the community, the author reveals the social construction of what she calls the “lake-woman cultural complex.” It offers a look at the process of adaptation to the current reality of the residents of Zirahuén, as well as many elements and characteristics of the pre-Hispanic female deities associated with water. In this research work, a theoretical and methodological proposal is presented to study oral materials limited to a specific cultural context, through two theoretical-methodological routes as a guide for the verbal arts and the mesoamerican worldview.
