Product information

Political caricature flourished in Mexico City newspapers beginning in 1861. Political caricature is understood as the production of images that express a constant questioning of social relations through the use of satire, parody, and symbolic forms such as allegory. Two central themes for caricaturists were the Constitution of 1857 and the Homeland, referring mostly to the elections for Congress, the Supreme Court, and the president, offering a way of seeing history that was not recorded in the painting of the time. This collection includes caricatures by Santiago Hernández, Melchor Álvarez, Constantino Escalante, Jesús T. Alamilla, among others.
