To relate the last conquest, this title is based on the fact that in 1875, Alfonso Alsina proposed establishing a physical limit against the “barbaric” incursions coming from the extreme south: a large moat of more than 600 kilometers between the Andes and the Atlantic. A large number of stories are analyzed around the southern border that advances from the Colorado River towards Tierra del Fuego: the conflicting projects of Alsina and Roca, Ebélot's journalistic articles for the Revue des Deux Mondes, the exploration of the Santa Cruz River by Francisco Moreno; the Salesian chronicles on the evangelization of Indians, Freemasons and Italians and the long literary production on the border.
