The codices or books produced by the nahuas have been a source of interest and study since the first conquerors, so after 500 years the nature of these writings continues today trying to be deciphered and interpreted. This title compiles debates on occidental discourses about mayan hieroglyphic writing from the XVI century, also including an analysis of the main contemporary positions on the matter. The objective of this work is to offer a better understanding of the ways in which Nahuatl writing was and is conceived, as well as the way in which historical research practices have been configured from non-alphabetic sources.
