The author offers a proposal for the analysis of the interrelation between culture and politics, between what happens in the daily life of San Pedro Chenalhó, the demands of organized groups and national events. In this study, one can find an exploration focused on gender, which also incorporates different axes of conflict and inequality –age, religious differences and political inclinations– to place men and women more firmly. The proposal that is extended here is to make visible that there are different positions in the way in which the indigenous people of San Pedro Chenalhó refer to the past and claim their right to equity and cultural difference.
