The poem Prophecy of Guatimoc by Ignacio Rodríguez Galván, written in the first half of the XIX century, is one of the great monuments of Spanish literature. In this study, the author aims to demonstrate how, by using religion as a mediating element, the poem resorted to a reversal of temporality of religious origin. Likewise, it seeks to establish that it is the same religion that motivates Rodríguez to produce the panegyric of the last Aztec tlatoanis and to demonstrate that Rodríguez Galván also contributed to the foundation of a romanticism characteristic of Mexican literature.
