Product information

In 1900, Carl Lumhotz published the classic monograph Symbolism of the Huichol Indians, thus becoming the forerunner of studies on the inhabitants of the Sierra Madre Occidental in Mexico, expounding what he called the “festival of the tender pumpkins.” The territory that the current Huichol people consider their own is made up of five separate and, from the indigenous point of view, self-governing regions, called communities, each with its native authorities and a governor, as well as with diverse traditions. Here, some stories are gathered together and the background of certain festivals and ceremonies of the communities is recorded.
