In this study, the author describes and analyzes the way in which Otomi adolescents from the community of Santiago Mexquititlán construct relative clauses when writing in Spanish. Here, a linguistic corpus consisting of 145 stories written by high school students participating in a reading and writing workshop is analyzed, where the problems of relative clauses are observed from different linguistic perspectives. In addition, this work is part of the studies of languages in contact –in this case, Otomi and Spanish– which causes the gradual displacement of the mother tongue and the imprecise acquisition of Spanish.
