The study of cave paintings in the state of Oaxaca is still in the process of being systematized; but in that way, archaeologist Roberto Zárate here presents an important contribution to this branch of research with his study of the cave paintings of Dani Guíaati. In this detailed analysis of the pictographic content left by Zapotec settlers centuries before the arrival of the Spanish, the author uses a wide range of auxiliary sources to interpret Dani Guíaati's symbols. This research presents the interpretation of symbols in paintings especially linked to current Zapotec culture with pre-Hispanic concepts and materials.
