Soren Wichmann, specialized in Mesoamerican languages and epigraphy, manages, through field work, to obtain interviews with Popolpuca speakers from Texistepec, Veracruz in order to compile the material contained here. This language, also known as Mixezoqueana, belongs, along with the Ayapa Zoque in Tabasco and the Sierra Popolpuca in the municipality of Soteapan, Veracruz, to the Gulf Zoquean subgroup.
