In the early morning of February 21, 1978, in the streets of downtown Mexico City, archaeological pieces from what was formerly Tenochtitlán were discovered by chance. With the support of INAH and led by Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, a Mexican archaeologist and anthropologist, what would later be known as the Templo Mayor Project began.
