Product information

This research aims to substantiate and explain how Veracruz was –and is– part of an area that, in a long process, shaped its cultural characteristics as a result of a series of historical circumstances. We go back 300 years to examine three axes related to the population of African origin in Mexico: the first forced migrations of enslaved people; the migration of Afro-Caribbeans, that is, descendants of Africans born in the Caribbean with a cultural background already mixed with the so-called native Indians and the Hipanos; and the similar historical and cultural process that persisted in the port of Veracruz and regions near the Caribbean islands, such as Cuba.
