The cultivation of the visual arts in Chiapas has been a fundamental step in the development of the indigenous peoples, reflecting their worldview, daily life, political and social events. With the aim of getting to know indigenous writers, painters, sculptors, luthiers, artisans and potters better, the State Center for Indigenous Languages, Art and Literature developed this project called Ijtkutya'b: Forms of Life. This volume brings together profiles of visual artists from the Maya and Zoque ethnic groups, illustrating the situation they face in developing their creativity; that with countless difficulties and scarce resources, they give life to and recreate the artistic legacy of their peoples.
