The funerary monolith of Janaab' Pakal from Palenque in 1952 is one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the last 100 years. This study is the product of an exhaustive review of the mortal remains of Pakal and his sacrificed companions, more than half a century after their initial exploration; providing information about the sovereign and his sociocultural environment from the perspectives of archaeology, taphonomy, skeletal biology, histology, paleodemography and epigraphic studies. This interdisciplinary research uses analytical tools as well as scientific reference frameworks in bioarchaeology and epigraphy.
