Hugo Valdés has been winner of the Alfonso Reyes National Literature Contest in 1994, the Autonomous University of Nuevo León Award for the Arts (UANL) in 2007 and the Nuevo León Literature Award in 2012, as well as honorable mention in the National Novel Award Historical Ignacio Solares 2021. This novel is a defense of the autonomous aspirations of Nuevo León in turbulent times against the disdain of the central power; It also interrogates the past and is far from the defects that overwhelm the “historical novel.” Seeming to warn the reader, it is also a beam of light projected on those areas of history that were erected according to the deceptive plane of appearances.
