European specialists have claimed that only those created with the letters of the Greek and Latin alphabets can be called writing, and that other systems are attempts to achieve writing with letters. However, in Mexican culture, our ancestors “wrote in paint,” meaning that each human figure, animal, plant or thing is a text that must be read. Traditionally, Mexican codices had only been interpreted as meaning that the same image had a different meaning depending on the specialist who interpreted it.
