The making of clothing on backstrap looms continues to be one of the fundamental activities of indigenous women in the Los Altos region of Chiapas, where history, tradition and worldview are interwoven; in addition to the above, this practice strengthens the sense of belonging of the Mayan and Zoque peoples. With the aim of getting to know indigenous writers, painters, sculptors, luthiers, artisans and potters better, the State Center for Indigenous Languages, Arts and Literature developed this project called Ijtkutya'b: Forms of Life. This volume collects the thoughts and feelings of indigenous weavers from the state of Chiapas.
