Indigenous republics and constitutional municipal corporations marked the history of Yucatán throughout the XIX century. Investigating these two institutions as intermediaries between the Maya and the Creole-mestizo groups allows us to better understand important events such as territorial privatization projects and the caste war, which began in 1847 and lasted on the peninsula until the beginning of the XX century. In this research, the author addresses Yucatán in the first half of the XIX century and the political participation of the Maya in two liberal political and social processes: municipalization and territorial privatization.
